Online lockdown and my FantasyCon 2012 schedule

Phew. I’m editing. Editing, editing, editing. The Age Atomic, the sequel to Empire State, is due out in April 2013 (moved forward from May), and the draft manuscript is a monster. Which means I’m editing. Editing, editing, editing. I started at 153,000 words, and after two weeks I’m down to 138,000. My target is 100,000 – shorter than Empire State, shorter than Seven Wonders, but that’s not a bad thing. Of course I always say that, so no doubt this book will still be around 120,000, which seems my average so far.

I’m also working on another project (which I can’t talk about yet) which has a concurrent deadline. So… it’s busy. Which is why I’m pretty much on an internet lockdown until at least after FantasyCon. The Work has to come first, of course, because The Work is what matters.

Speaking of FantasyCon, the programme is now online. Here’s my own schedule:

Friday Sept 28,  Aug 30 1:00-2:00 pm
How important are blogs?
Room: Fitzherbert
With Marc Aplin, Lee Harris, Amanda Rutter and Danie Ware

A fairly broad topic – the title of this panel has changed a couple of times, but looking at the panellists I’m guessing we’re going to talk about blogs (author blogs and review blogs, I guess?) from the point of view of book bloggers/reviewers, authors, and publishers.

Friday Sept 28, 9:30-10:00 pm
Reading
Room: 134

A little bit of Seven Wonders, with time for questions. Incidentally, there might be a few limited edition hardcovers available for sale from the Forbidden Planet table during FantasyCon.

Saturday Sept 29, 4:00–4:30 pm
Angry Robot Book Launch
Room: Bar Rogue
With Mike Shevdon, David Tallerman and Gav Thorpe

Books and drinks. Reason enough to come, I think!

There’s also a mass signing in Jenny’s Restaurant on the Friday, 8:00-9:30 pm, which I will pop into. Aside from that, I’ll be at the bar, so please come and say hello! I’ll be there from Friday lunchtime until Sunday night… FantasyCon, I mean. I’m not occupying the bar for two and a half days!

See you in Brighton!
