SFX Book Club #96: CARRIE, by Stephen King

SFX magazine #243 is out in stores today, and on page 114 you’ll find the Book Club feature. This month, I’m talking about Stephen King’s debut novel, Carrie.

Carrie – as you will discover from the essay – is a book I really like, and this was a fun piece to write. But early next year I’m back in the Book Club for another title which is a little more “challenging”, shall we say…

Also in this issue of SFX, author Adam Sternbergh gets a little interview on page 16, where he talks about his forthcoming novel Shovel Ready. – I’ll be talking about his staggeringly excellent book later this week, as it’s one of my top picks for 2014.

Over on pages 116-117 you’ll find an extract from Vicious, by V.E. Schwab. This brilliantly left-field take on super heroics is also out in the UK in January (US was September 2013), and I’ll be mentioning it again as one of my favourite books of this year.

And finally, a certain book called Hang Wire gets a micro mention on page 55 as a book to watch out for in 2014.

SFX #243 is available from the usual stores, and can be found digitally in Zinio or Apple’s Newsstand.
