Empire State exclusive extract at Tor.com

Over at Tor.com it’s Noir Week, a cross-genre celebration of the hardboiled and trenchcoat-clad, and to mark this fact they have released an exclusive extract from my science fiction noir, Empire State. Head on over and have a read!

Empire State is out on December 27th in the US, Canada, and as an ebook, and January 5th in the UK.

Want to know more?

It was the last great science hero fight, but the energy blast ripped a hole in reality, and birthed the Empire State – a young, twisted parallel prohibition-era New York.

When the rift starts to close, both worlds are threatened, and both must fight for the right to exist.

  • I notice that you have US and UK editions on both Amazon.co.uk and .com.

What are the differences, and how would you know which one you are getting?

  • Hi Tony,

That’s a good question actually. The UK and US editions *might* have different covers, which will be the biggest difference of course. However that is still being worked out.

Both editions are trade paperback, although there may be a difference in size (the UK being B-format and the US being trade – without seeing them side-by-side I’m not sure of the exact size difference).

There is also a possibility that the cover blurb will differ between regions, but decisions like that are a wee way off yet.

So at the moment, the only differentiation is the ISBN number and the release date. If you see it online anywhere and it says 27th December 2011, that’s the US edition. If it says 5th January 2012, that’s the UK edition.

I’ve linked both editions from both Amazons as I know there are some collectors who want both, but I’ll think it over, and it might be clearer just to keep them within the right region. If you’re a collector, you’ll know where to go anyway!

I ordered the book in advance (UK edition) over at Amazon.de.
I did it before reading the excerpt because I had expectations.
    The excerpt verified my expectations.
I want to read it and I want to read it NOW!

  • Thanks, Michael!
