Book releases 2017

Looks like 2017 is going to be a big one for me – I seem to have four books out this year. I have no idea how this happened, but hey, let’s roll with it.

First up is Standard Hollywood Depravity, a novella in the Ray Electromatic Mystery series, out March 7th from Tor.com in ebook and trade paperback. Set between the first novel in the series, Made to Kill, and the forthcoming follow-up Killing Is My Business, Standard Hollywood Depravity is a standalone story, albeit one with a couple of touches that link it to the main story arc.

“Combines classic Chandlerian noir with vintage sci-fi with brilliant results: Ray the Robot, a contract killer with glimmers of half-remembered conscience, will break your heart. Truly original, and deeply satisfying.”

— Kelly Braffet, author of Save Yourself

The moment Raymond Electromatic set eyes on her, he knew she was the dame marked in his optics, the woman that his boss had warned him about.

Honey.

As the band shook the hair out of their British faces, stomping and strumming, the go-go dancer’s cage swung, and the events of that otherwise average night were set in motion. A shot, under the cover of darkness, a body bleeding out in a corner, and most of Los Angeles’ population of hired guns hulking, sour-faced over un-drunk whiskey sours at the bar.

But as Ray tries to track down the package he was dispatched to the club to retrieve, his own programming might be working against him, sending him down a long hall and straight into a mobster’s paradise. Is Honey still the goal―or was she merely bait for a bigger catch?

Just your standard bit of Hollywood depravity, as tracked by the memory tapes of a less-than-standard robot hitman.

While Standard Hollywood Depravity is a new story, readers of the ebook version will get a little bonus, as the digital edition comes bundled with the very first novelette, Brisk Money, which introduces Ray and Ada and their dirty little operation.

Out July 25th is the second Ray Electromatic Mystery novel, Killing Is My Business.

“Delivers like a punch from a two-ton robot in a zoot suit.”
― Lila Bowen, award-winning author of Wake of Vultures

“Humor, action, and heart: everything I’ve come to expect from an Adam Christopher book,
and then some. A marvelous read!”
― Jason M. Hough, New York Times bestselling author of Zero World

“Robot noir in 60s Los Angeles? You had me at ‘Hello.'”
— John Scalzi, New York Times bestselling author

Another golden morning in a seedy town, and a new memory tape and assignment for intrepid PI-turned-hitman–and last robot left in working order–Raymond Electromatic.

But his skills may be rustier than he remembered in the latest in Christopher’s robot noir oeuvre, hot on the heels of the acclaimed Made to Kill.

Note that UK order links for Killing Is My Business are not yet live. I’ll update the blog when they go up.

Also out in July is the second Dishonored novel, following from last year’s The Corroded Man. It’s a standalone story, and while the title is currently a very closely guarded secret, I have a feeling fans of the Dishonored universe are going to be pretty excited about this one. I’ll reveal the title, cover, and full jacket copy once I have them.

The fourth book out in 2017 is the third Dishonored novel. More information, including the publication date, when I have it.

Phew! That’s a lot of books… better get back to work…

MADE TO KILL trade paperback release and Reddit AMA for DISHONORED

And so I emerge from my edit cave with two nice little snippets!

Today the trade paperback of Made to Kill, the first volume in the LA Trilogy, is out in North America from Tor Books. With the novella Standard Hollywood Depravity and book 2, Killing is My Business, out next year, now’s your chance to grab the first book in a decidedly softer print format. You can pick it up from your favourite retailer – here’s the links for Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, and IndieBound, if you are so inclined.

Also today (Tuesday, October 11, 2016, in case you are reading this, well, on some other day) I’m doing an Ask Me Anything session over Reddit in support of the first Dishonored novel, The Corroded Man, which came out a couple of weeks ago. I’ll be answering any and all questions between 2pm and 5pm Eastern Standard Time (11am – 2pm Pacific Time, 7pm-10pm GMT), and will be back over the next couple of days to pick up any stragglers.

I’m excited about this book, as I’m a huge fan of Dishonored, and I think (hope!) other fans will get a buzz out of the story. It was certainly a blast to write – the fact that I’m contributing to the canon and lore of the Dishonored universe is, y’know, pretty cool.

The Doctor Who comics of Alan Moore, and DISHONORED book announcement

Couple o’ things.

Over at Tor.com, I take a look at the Doctor Who comics of Alan Moore. Moore, better known as the writer of Watchmen, V for Vendetta, and other groundbreaking titles, actually started writing back-up strips for Doctor Who Weekly magazine back in the early 1980s. Reviewing the stories was pretty fun, and you can check it out over here.

In other news, Bethesda announced a comic and novel tie-in series for the console/PC game Dishonored. As it happens, I’ve written the first book, which comes with this rather fetching cover. Click to embiggen it in all its glory!

The cover says not final, but I doubt it will change much.

Dishonored: The Corroded Man is out in September from your usual favourite bookstores. The full press release for the comics and novel can be read here.
