New York Comic Con 2017

Next month I’m making my first visit to New York Comic Con, where I am a Spotlight Guest! You can find my official schedule here, but it doesn’t include a couple of extras, so here’s my rundown:

Thursday, October 5th

Panel: It’s Technical: Our Future with Robots and More
Time: 12:15 – 1:15 PM
Place: Room 1A18
With:
Annalee Newitz, Sylvain Neuvel, Kirsten Miller, Nathan Hale

Robots. Artificial Intelligence. Smart Everything. How will the tools of technology, whether of human origin or otherwise, shape our lives and cultures? Intelligent and probably not artificially constructed authors Annalee Newitz (Autonomous), Sylvain Neuvel (Sleeping Giants), Kirsten Miller (Otherworld), Nathan Hale (One Trick Pony) , and Adam Christopher (The Ray Electromatic Series) tackle ethical and practical matters with Maryelizabeth Yturralde of Mysterious Galaxy.

Signing: It’s Technical: Our Future with Robots and More
Time: 1:30 – 2:30 PM
Place: Autographing Table 23
With:
Annalee Newitz, Sylvain Neuvel, Kirsten Miller, Nathan Hale

Books will be available for purchase at the signing courtesy of The Strand. Of course I’m happy to sign anything you bring, and that includes Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View (more on that below), as there is no official signing for this at the Del Rey Star Wars booth #2104.

Saturday, October 7th

Panel: From a Certain Point of View: A Star Wars 40th Anniversary Celebration
Time: 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM
Place: Hudson Mercantile – 500 W 36th St
With: Pablo Hidalgo, Benjamin Acker, Meg Cabot, Pierce Brown, Zoraida Córdova, Delilah Dawson, Jason Fry, Kieron Gillen, Claudia Gray, EK Johnston, Mur Lafferty, John Jackson Miller, Daniel Jose Older, Mallory Ortberg, Beth Revis, Cavan Scott, Charles Soule, Marc Thompson, Elizabeth Wein, Chuck Wendig

In 1977 a princess, a farm boy, a scoundrel, a Wookiee, two droids, an old wizard, and a man in black set us off on a galaxy full of adventure. Forty years later, join an all-star panel of authors to celebrate the legacy of Star Wars with a new anthology that retells the story of Star Wars through the eyes of the background characters and creatures that bring the galaxy to life.

Moderated by Lucasfilm Story Group member Pablo Hidalgo, this unique panel promises fun new insights into the characters and scenes of the film that you think you know, and features a rotating cast of more than a dozen Star Wars authors and contributors, including but not limited to: Ben Acker, Pierce Brown, Adam Christopher, Zoraida Cordova, Delilah Dawson, Jason Fry, Kieron Gillen, Claudia Gray, EK Johnston, Mur Lafferty, John Jackson Miller, Daniel José Older, Mallory Ortberg, Beth Revis, Cavan Scott, Charles Soule, Marc Thompson, Elizabeth Wein, and Chuck Wendig.

This is the biggie! So big, it’s a separate, ticketed event – full details are here. Tickets are $45, and they include a copy of the New York Comic Con exclusive cover edition of Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View signed by (I think) 13 contributors (more on that below!). A ticket to New York Comic Con is not required in order to attend, so if you’re in town on Saturday but not at the con itself you can still come along.

Sunday, October 8th

Signing: Tor Books
Time: 1:00 – 2:00 PM
Place: :
Tor Books, booth #2136

My other official signing slot – again, books will be on sale, and I’m also happy to sign whatever you bring along, including Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View.

That’s it for my schedule!

If you are at the con and you want to get the convention exclusive cover edition of Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View, all the info you need is here. The book is $40 from the Del Rey Star Wars booth (#2104), there are only 600 copies, and you need a wristband to get a copy. Unless, that is, you come to the Saturday panel, as your $45 ticket includes the book.

The booth will also be selling the regular edition of the anthology.

The con exclusive cover is a rather fine piece of work by non other than Will Staehle, who – by complete coincidence – happens to have designed all of my covers, bar the tie-in books (click the image below to embiggen!). Seems I just can’t shake him off…

See you in New York!
